Australia Post and the Railways of Australia (Vol. 1)

Transcontinental Railway – 50 Years - Australia PostThe Indian Pacific - a railroad to trump all others. It crosses the whole of Australia, going all the way from Sydney to Perth. 70-75 hours of a barren landscape in what is basically first class. The stamp shows an Indian Pacific train in front of a sunset/sunrise, and under the words "Transcontinental Railway: 50 Years" and it's face value, AUD 1.10. The railroad was completed on February 8, 1970, meaning this year it celebrates its 50th anniversary. It was released on February 11, 2020.

WNS: AU060.10 (Great Australian Railway Journeys - The Ghan)In 2010, Australia Post also released an Indian Pacific stamp, this time showing the whole train in the outback, in front of some mountains. That stamp was worth 55 Australian cents. This stamp was released on May 7, 2010





The Ghan is a railway that goes from Adelaide all the way to Darwin in the north. This stamp is part of the same set, showing a very pretty view of a train in the outback. This and the last stamp were released in May 7, 2010. It's worth 55 Australian cents.




The West Coast Wilderness Railway is a short regional railway in the state of Tasmania, the island just to the south of the mainland. The west coast of Tasmania is a very rugged and mountainous area, with great nature preserves and few people. This railway runs from Queenstown to Strathan on the coast. It first opened in 1899, then was closed in 1963, and reopened and rebranded in 2003. This stamp was released on May 7, 2010.



The Kuranda Scenic Railway in Queensland is a short tourist railway from Cairns to the small town of Kuranda in the nearby hills. In 2009, it was considered the top 150 attractions in Queensland, as part of the Q150 celebrations. It was opened in 1891, and has been operating ever since. It's 37 km/23 mi long, and takes just under two hours to go the whole distance. This stamp was released on May 7, 2010.
